Today was our last regular scout meeting before our inaugural camping trip.  (Do not confuse that with our last Girl Scout activity before our inaugural camping trip – because you know me right?  We have a parade, a shopping trip and a trip to the local science museum all scheduled before that camping trip.  Also, we’re going family camping this weekend.  Sleep?  Who needs sleep?)

All of our girls have camped with their families before which is a huge blessing.  But, Girl Scout camping is a bit different – the girls will have a lot more responsibility than they do on a family trip (read, everything is going to take a gazillion times longer to finish that it will on a family trip).  So, yesterday, we talked about some of the skills we’ll be exploring  – knife safety, hiking, washing dishes.  We pitched a tent – the girls were awesome!  We talked about building fires and since I wasn’t sure that the church would be excited about us building a huge bonfire on the front lawn, we made small edible campfires out of candy corn, coconut and twizzlers.  Sounds silly, but I think the girls will actually remember what types of wood goes where, so I’m calling it a success!
