Cheers! {December Daily 2012 | Day 31}

Once upon a time, I truly enjoyed New Year’s Eve.  I remember having friends over when I was in middle school and high school, toasting the new year with Shirley Temples and hoping, more than once, for a kiss from some special at the time boy.  Steve asked me to marry him on New Year’s Eve.  (He says it was New Year’s Day because it was after midnight, but I say that’s just semantics).  In this season of my life, New Year’s Eve is not exactly a night filled with partying and wild abandon.  This year, I was asleep by 10:00 p.m.  It was a long work day for me and the past few weeks have really taken their toll on my energy level.  I am beyond tired.  We still had a small celebration – I made the corned beef and stuffed mushrooms that my dad traditionally made for our Christmas Eve buffet.  And the girls celebrated with sparkling apple juice in 2013 champagne flutes that they found at Publix.

Gracie tired her best to stay awake until midnight but when Steve woke up and checked on her at 11:45 p.m., she was soundly sleeping.

It certainly wasn’t the most exciting New Year’s Eve I’ve ever had, but I think it was one of the sweetest!
